New Delhi/Jammu/Varanasi, Oct 07 (ANI): Markets are in full bloom ahead of ‘Karwa Chauth’, which is celebrated by married women who keep fast for the long life of their husbands. Sometimes, unmarried women too join the fast for their fiancés or desired husbands. Women thronged to markets to shop for sweets, fruits, jewellery, outfits and to apply henna on their hands. Women in Jammu came up with a fun way of celebrating this day by getting tattoos done on their body. Women in Varanasi performed pooja ahead of the fast and prayed for the longevity of their husbands. On this day, married women fast from sunrise to moonrise for the safety and longevity of their husbands. The festival falls on the fourth day after the full moon, in the Hindu lunisolar calendar month of Kartik.
