Darjeeling (West Bengal), June 18 (ANI): As the indefinite strike called by the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) continued for the seventh consecutive day, the army on Sunday rescued as many as 81 NCC students, who got stuck at the hill station due to shutdown. The students were left stranded as there was no transport available in the region. Meanwhile, the shutdown’s effect could be seen on the streets of Kurseong as the whole region is in a volatile condition. Atleast 36 policemen have been reportedly injured during the ongoing violent protests in the region. The protests erupted in regard to the demand of a separate state, ‘Gorkhaland’, by the GJM workers. The outraged agitators also opposed the alleged imposition of Bengali as compulsory language in state schools.
