Siliguri (West Bengal), Dec 07 (ANI): Bird lovers and locals are pitching for conservation of migratory birds in West Bengal’s Siliguri. In Siliguri, there has been a noticeable reduction in the number of birds which migrate to warmer tropical areas during winters. Around 6,000 birds used to migrate to places like Siliguri to breed every year, however, the numbers have reduced now due to rapid urbanisation and polluted water bodies. A local resident alleged that the forest department also turns a blind eye to the incessant hunting of these birds. From early November onwards, these migratory birds keep arriving from various parts of the world to nest in various parts of India.
