New Delhi, Jan 10 (ANI): After the Parliament on Wednesday approved an amendment to the Constitution to make economically-weaker sections of general category eligible for 10% reservation in education and government jobs. The Constitution (124th Amendment) Bill, 2019 bill was approved by the Rajya Sabha with 165 votes in favour and seven against after a day-long debate. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s daughter Misa Bharti said, “It is a political stunt. The government didn’t do anything for 4.5 years. The way this bill was brought into light is like giving toy to savarnas which is useless. RJD has opposed this.” While on the other side Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar said, “Today is revolutionary day as reservation bill was approved by the Rajya Sabha with 165 votes in favour. This is a great initiative to give equality to the entire society.”
